Let's go back 13 years ago when my lovely husband, Dan, got down on one knee in the middle of Piccadilly Circus (London England) and asked me to marry him. Little did I know then what my life would look like now. We were young, in love and ready to make it official! A little after a year of marriage, we had the bright idea to start a construction company, Calgary Custom Construction Ltd. - I would work behind the scenes and Dan would be the face of the company working as the lead carpenter. Over the years, we have been lucky enough to grow our company and work together, while maintaining our relationship and putting our marriage first.
Fast forward a decade or so, our little family of two has grown into a family of five and Dan and I are now the proud parents to three beautiful children. Although life has definitely gotten a lot busier, it has also gotten a lot better. Those kiddos keep us on our toes, but I wouldn't have it any other way.
Our roles within the company have also changed. I learned to channel my innate artistry and creativity into something that could help others, while also helping our company: Interior Design. I developed my skills in drawing and drafting custom cabinetry and millwork, and started my education so that I could be better equipped to handle the industry. The more I learn, the more I realize that this is the path I am meant to be on, and I have to say - I love it. When I get to design a space, my fire is lit and I am in my element. I love everything about it. Shapes, Colours, Patterns, Lighting, Woods, Metals, Textiles - and how it all goes together. I also love how every person I meet is different and unique and so is their style. I enjoy challenging myself and figuring out the perfect space for that person.
Now, in 2019, Dan and I work closer than ever - we collaborate and work together to bring our clients' dreams to reality. From concept to completion, I work on the design, while Dan works on building and contracting. A match made in heaven, don't you think? We are also very blessed to have curated a team of skilled craftsman to help us - we know we couldn't do this without them - so we are very grateful.
Looking back, like I said - I couldn't have imagined what our life would look like - in that moment, when Dan slid that ring onto my finger and everyone around us was clapping (not for us, mind you lol - it was the Kingdom of Heaven premier and Orlando Bloom was coming out behind us...), I was only thinking about how happy I was right then. And as each moment has passed since then, I am still enjoying them one at a time. It's amazing to me, though, how each moment has accumulated to lead us here. I am looking forward to what the next moment will bring - for our life, for our family and for our business.
